India Should Be `Right-Sized ` To Give Peace A Chance In South Asia

Sep 9, 2019 By admin

Since its independence in 1947 from the British, India has waged several wars against its neighbors Pakistan and China. It also occupied several princely states in the sub-continent at the time of partition by force. It sponsors state terrorism in countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Nepal. It is fast becoming a Hindu state meant for the Hindus only. The Hindu majority does not allow non-Hindus living in the country to celebrate even their religious festivals freely.  In the wake of these and many other factors, the time has come for the world to right-size India into several states so that it does not pose a danger to its neighbors and its own people as well.

India has a history of violating human rights in Kashmir, Assam, Punjab and other parts of the country.  The world community needs to wake up to reality and start making strenuous efforts to help separatist movements succeed in gaining independence.

Liberals in the country have been strongly condemning the Indian government for its abuses and human rights violations against minorities such as Muslims, Christians, Sikhs living in different parts of the country.

Amit Shah, the Home Minister in the Hindu-nationalist government run by Modi, said that no illegal immigrant will be allowed to stay anywhere in India. He was referring to roughly 2 million people in Assam who have been declared illegal immigrants despite the fact that they had been living there for the past several generations.

India on August 5 revoked Article 370  and stripped Jammu & Kashmir region of its special status. For the past 35 days, Kashmir has been locked down. There is no Internet, no press freedom, no groceries, and no nothing. The Kashmiris have been protesting against the Indian government but there does not seem to be a respite in their sufferings.  Hospitals have run out of life-saving medicines. And, Indian forces have been killing the Kashmiri youth on a daily basis and raping young girls and women.

Indian defence Minister Rajnath has recently threatened to use nuclear bombs against Pakistan.  This seems to be an official policy of the Indian government as it has not denied the statement by its Defence Minister.

To stop the abusive behavior of the Indian government, the international community has to stop India from committing heinous crimes against humanity. The best way to do so might be to help independent movement in the country succeed. The United Nations could follow the East Timur model to divide India into several independent countries so that it can no longer pose a threat to international peace and security.
